AGAWAK
Where memories are
made and cherished for a lifetime.
Dear Campers and Parents:
We at Camp Agawak feel we have something very special to offer to everyone
that passes through our forested gates. Camp Agawak has been in existence
for over 70 years offering numerous activity opportunities and wonderful
facilities. The staff is gentle and caring in helping to create a safe,
warm family atmosphere. A video tape is available to see the many activities
and facilities Camp Agawak possesses. If you'd like to hear more about
Camp Agawak or would like to have us visit you personally, please write
or call us immediately. Camp Agawak is located in the heart of the Beautiful
Northwoods of Wisconsin. The camp property is located on a tract of 120
heavily wooded acres, in the town of Minocqua, Wisconsin. Agawak borders
Blue Lake, a 460 acre private lake, considered one of the purest lakes
in the state with its clear water and soft sand bottom. The camp has
1500 feet of sand beach on the eastern shore which allows-sunshine all
day long. First established in 1922, Agawak has always been one of the
premier camps for girls in the Midwest region.
WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT CAMP AGAWAK
The key to having your daughter love her experience at camp, and mature
at the same time is making sure that each camper feels that she is an
integral part of the camp. Our cabin groups will be small in size and
our enrollment will be limited to insure a warm personal experience.
Our greatest emphasis is placed on meeting the needs of the individual
camper, to assure her happiness, personal security and growth within
the group. To achieve these ends, Agawak stresses careful and intelligent
guidance within a diversified program that allows each camper to make
personal choices in the activities in which she participates, while encouraging
her to try out programs that she has never experienced.
Billy
and Mary bring a unique chemistry to Camp Agawak. Working closely
together in the daily operations of the camp, they generate a fresh
enthusiasm into the activities and programs. The warmth and understanding
these two possess is their most valuable asset in working with the
campers to give them the positive experience you want for your daughter.
Billy has attended overnight camp since his first experience at age
6 in 1966. He spent over 20 years at Camp Timberlane moving up the line
from youngest camper to Assistant Director. Billy works with children
during the year and coaches interscholastic sports.
Mary is a School Counselor during the year. With a Masters Degree in
Educational Psychology, Mary provides the leadership needed in working
with the campers and staff. Her concern and sensitivity for others enhances
each campers experience while at Agawak.
1989 provided Billy and Mary the opportunity to
continue Camp Agawak's long standing tradition. They bring warmth,
understanding and enthusiasm to the new generation of Agawak Girls.
Billy and Mary create a fun - family atmosphere to make the summer
memorable and meaningful to each girl that comes through its gates.
ABOUT OUR STAFF Camp Agawak promotes a warm family atmosphere for which
our Staff is directly responsible. Our Camp is outstanding because
of our staff. Our senior counselors and specialists are chosen from
colleges throughout the country. Many of our staff members are teachers
or studying to be teachers. We also have a select group of staff members
from abroad, mainly Australia and New Zealand. Junior counselors who
have come up the ranks complement our blend of personalities among
the staff ranks. They all have been selected not only because of their
special aptitudes in various activities, but also for their CHARACTER,
ENTHUSIASM, WARMTH and GENUINE INTEREST in the campers who come under
their care. We maintain a minimum ratio of ONE COUNSELOR TO EVERY THREE
CAMPERS. We are very proud of our staff and the job they have done
over the years. Camp Agawak's success can be attributed to the efforts
made by the staff members over its 75 year tradition.
WATERFRONT
The waterfront at Camp Agawak is breathtaking and consists of 1500 feet
of beach frontage. The South and west exposure on the lakefront insures
us of having sun on our shore most of the day. The swimming area is enclosed
in a buoyed crib system for safe supervision. We have a diving area with
a low dive and high platform dive. The new Blob area for bouncing your
way into the water. Two separate water-ski piers with 5 ski boats at
our disposal. The girls swim daily and there is a complete fleet of canoes,
sailboats, rowboats, funyaks, paddle boats and a pontoon boat to enjoy
on the waters of Blue Lake. WE FOLLOW ALL SAFETY
AND RED CROSS STANDARDS IN OUR TOTAL WATERFRONT PROGRAM.
LAND ACTIVITIES
Major facilities for land sports at camp include two athletic fields
for soccer, softball, volleyball and other various games. There is room
for every conceivable land sport: archery at the archery range, riflery
at our rifle range, six tennis courts for tennis, basketball on the basketball
court and trampolines for our very special game of trampball. Tetherball
and other favorites can be found on the camp grounds. There also is an
outdoor campfire site for the weekly all-camp campfire programs. A recreation
building offers space for indoor gymnastics, dance, aerobics and games.
We have ping-pong and other games available in our camper retreat.
DRAMATICS

We have an EXCELLENT TRIPPING PROGRAM and have our own "trip shack" with
lots of equipment available. We offer canoe trips of different lengths
and will gear them so that our campers can truly enjoy the camping experience.
A 5 day Isle Royal trip and a Canadian Canoe trip will be offered for
our older campers. Hiking, Cabin Overnights and other forms of tripping
are offered.

to updating existing programs. Recently Wood Carving, Candle Making,
The Blob, KWAK Radio Station (88. 1 Fm), Mountain Bikes and Home Video

facilities are constantly being done to keep Camp Agawak as one of the
premiere camps in the Midwest.
HEALTH
The health of the girls is carefully monitored at camp; we have an infirmary
with a Nurse living on the camp grounds at all times. We are only 5 miles
from the Howard Young Medical Center and The Marshfield Clinic, regional
facilities offering over 40 doctors on their staff.

WHY?
WE HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL TO OFFER YOUR CHILD
AT CAMP!
We shall offer a series of exciting and varied activities and plan to
challenge each camper to contribute of themselves to the camp program.
We shall try to find some special skill or talent and will encourage
your daughter to share this ability in helping out in our camp program.
In the process she will gain self confidence and feel that she is a vital
member of our camp family. We'll offer a meaningful leadership training
program for older campers and hope that some day they'll want to become
staff members at Camp Agawak.
WE OFFER EITHER A 7 WEEK PROGRAM OR ONE OF TWO
3-1/2 WEEK SESSIONS
Our registration offers you the choice of either a seven week program
or one of two three and a half week sessions. We know that this will
enable you to work in your daughter's stay at camp with your family plans.
CAMP AGAWAK FOR GIRLS is
a non sectarian camp and will accept applications for enrollment from
girls age 7 to 16 years. We will limit enrollment so that each girl
will have an opportunity to participate in the many activities offered
at camp.
